USA Eagle 1977

This photograph was taken in 1976 of Dr. Thomas Altemeier standing next to the original All Iowa Division 1 travelling trophy. In 1993 Tom passed away and the Rugby community lost a friend and teammate. Tom displayed a love for the sport in ways most of us only dream about. In 1968 Tom began playing for the University of Iowa Rugby Club. He went on to play for the Des Moines Rugby Club from 1971 to 1976. In 1976 Tom started the Iowa Falls Rugby Football Club. Many of the accomplishments of the Iowa Falls Rugby Football Club can be traced back to the seeds Tom planted during his stay in Iowa Falls. His enthusiasm for rugby lead him to play as a USA Eagle representing the United States of America. This same enthusiasm helped to develop and guide many of the rugby players in Iowa today. We are all grateful to Tom for his contribution to the sport.
