The Iowa Falls Rugby Club opened its Autumn rugby campaign on September 10th in Cedar Rapids. The local ruggers were short several club members because of previous commitments and injuries. The match opened with excellent ball control and repeated offensive attacks by the Iowa Falls ruggers. After 15 minutes an errant turnover allowed Cedar Rapids to score to lead. Iowa Falls resumed their ball control and offensive probes with Chris Pruismann scoring at 30 minutes. Cedar Rapids was able to score a try and convert shortly before half time but Craig Pruismann quickly responded with a try, converted by Todd Dillon to knot the score 12-12 at the half. The second half opened with the IFRFC losing ball control multiple times allowing Cedar Rapids to surge to a 12-24 lead. The Iowa Falls team resumed the attack with Cesar Guevara scoring midpoint of the second half narrowing the Cedar Rapids lead to 17-24. The Iowa Falls ruggers were not able to respond to the many fresh opponents but did trade tries in the late second half. Cedar Rapids was able to maintain their lead for a 22-31 victory. The next IFRFC match is September 17th at 1:30 PM at the Georgetown Road pitch, the Club hosting the Northeast Iowa Rugby Club. The public is welcome. Admittance is free.
