The Iowa Falls Rugby Football Club was founded in 1976 in Iowa Falls Iowa. Located in central Iowa in the heart of America. We have developed one of the finest facilities in the United States. We will soon be adding our sixth and seventh fields and completing our irrigation project. All of these fields are groomed, full sized regulation fields and are ready for play located on a 35 acre open space recreation complex. In 1976, former USA Eagle Dr. Thomas Altemeier moved to Iowa Falls to open a medical practice. With his experience and love for the game, he wished to continue participation. He asked his neighbor, Craig Harris if he would be interested in starting a club in Iowa Falls. Craig agreed and then promptly asked “what is rugby?” The same response was elicited from each and every player recruit. This nucleus of players has formed a stable platform for continued success of the club. Since then Dr. Francis Pisney has taken on the task of developing our facilities into what it has become today.
All club members range from 14 years of age, high school and college students through players over 60 years of age. These elders help us develop a stable, fundamentally sound group of rugby players and act as mentors to the younger, new players. We have been All Iowa Champs in several divisions numerous times but are mostly proud of our history of finishing in the top six teams in the State of Iowa, where high level play has become a standard. We are also proud to have High School-Under 19 Rugby on our list of club accomplishments. The Clubhouse, pitches and open space complex on Georgetown road are supported by the Iowa Falls Rugby Football Club Foundation established for the purpose of maintaining and developing the Open Space Recreational Complex for public use.
